City face Faroe Island opposition in UEFA Cup

Manchester City have been drawn to face EB/Streymur from the Faroe Islands in the UEFA Cup first qualifying round.The Blues will be away for the first leg of the tie which will take place on Thursday July 17 at the national stadium in Tórshavn, kick-off 7pm.
City’s home leg of the tie will be played at Barnsley’s Oakwell ground two weeks later and will be Mark Hughes’ first competitive game in charge of the Blues on British soil.

Andreas Isaksson departs for PSV Eindhoven

Andreas Isaksson has today completed a move to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.The 26-year-old keeper was rarely a regular starter during his time with the Blues and made only 20 appearances for the Club after signing from Rennes in August 2006.
Injuries and the form of Kasper Schmeichel and Joe Hart forced the Swede on to the bench for most of the campaign and after passing a medical this afternoon Isaksson signed a four-deal with PSV.

Jô signs for Club record transfer fee

Manchester City can confirm the Club record signing of Brazilian international striker Jô from CSKA Moscow on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old hitman becomes Mark Hughes' first signing as City Manager and comes with a record of 44 goals in 77 games for CSKA since joining from Corinthians in 2005.
During his time in Moscow, Jô helped CSKA to two Russian Super Cups, the Russian Premier League title in 2006 along with the Russian Cup in the same season.
Speaking about his first signing as City Manager, Mark Hughes exclusively told mcfc.co.uk : "He’s a big talent and a young man with a big future.
"A lot has been said about him and there was a big expectation on him coming out of Brazil. So with the success he’s had I think it’s a real coup that we’ve been able to bring him to the Club.
"He’s a big guy, in stature and in ability, so I think everybody will enjoy watching him play."

Club confirm Celtic friendly

Manchester City have today finalised their pre-season plans with the announcement of a friendly against Celtic at Parkhead on Wednesday August 6, kick-off 7.45pm.Premature media reports last week claimed the fixture would be the night before, but the date couldn't be confirmed until yesterday's UEFA Champions League draw, which involved city rivals Glasgow Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to mcfctv.com, Manager Mark Hughes said: “It’s always great going to Celtic Park, irrespective of whether it’s a pre-season friendly, a testimonial or whatever.
"There’s always a big atmosphere up at Parkhead."
In what will now prove to be a busy first week of August, City will take on Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Saturday August 2, then Celtic on August 6, before hosting AC Milan at the City of Manchester on Saturday August 9 for the Thomas Cook Trophy.
“The Celtic game is going to be played just before the Milan game, so they’re a great couple of fixtures leading into the start of the Premier League season.
“They are the right quality of opposition and should be great games that will bring us up to speed. I’m sure they’ll be great atmospheres at both games."

Richard Dunne signs new four-year deal

Manchester City captain Richard Dunne has today penned a new four-year contract with the Club.The 28-year-old defender was linked with summer moves away from the City of Manchester Stadium, but following talks with Manager Mark Hughes, the Irish international swiftly signed a deal that ties him to the Blues until at least 2012.
After completing the paperwork, Dunne exclusively told mcfc.co.uk: “I’m delighted with it.
“My first priority is, was and always has been to stay at City because I’ve enjoyed it so much and I feel really settled here.
“When Mark Hughes got the job I think everyone was really pleased and I was thrilled that he seemed to make it a priority to sort my contract out. I’m delighted to be able to stay.”
City Manager Hughes himself added: "I'm delighted with the outcome and Richard is a really important player for us.
“It was one of my priorities when I took the job that I made sure that he was one of the players we needed to keep."
And Dunne revealed that his City stay didn’t take long to agree once Hughes had taken over as Blues boss: “As soon as he did we started to talk. It was literally a couple of days and it was all done and dusted.
“I’m pleased now that it’s all been signed and sealed and I can relax a bit more now and concentrate on the season ahead.”
